A 2004-2006 report from The Department of Mental Health and Hygiene stated that Central Brooklyn had 3,247 young mothers under the ages of 20 to give birth. MSK is the first mentoring program in Central Brooklyn to proactively "attempt" to decrease multiple births among young mothers. MSK provides positive adult role models to enhance self-esteem within our young mothers. MSK's research has shown that connecting young mothers with a positive mentor increases self-esteem. MSK hopes each mother will develop self-worth, independence and the ability to think that her future goals are still attainable.
