Young Mothers
Welcome to a sisterhood that you need and deserve. Becoming a young mother is neither easy nor a part time job. This sisterhood will help you NOT to fall victim of what society believes happens to young mothers i.e. dropping out of HS, allowing public assistance to dictate your life, having multiple pregnancies as a teenager and the list continues.
My Sisters' Keeper will provide monthly support groups for our young mothers. A Nurturing Parent Administrator will help you develop the proper nurturing/maternal ability that is needed to help the growth of your baby. My Sisters' Keeper's survey shows that 77% of young mothers did not have a clue of the major responsibilities it took raising a baby (i.e. supporting the baby mentally, emotionally, physically, financially etc…). You will get a sample of what is yet to come. This positive reinforcement will help you become independent and self-sufficient.
There will be constant role-playing that will display:
-Feeding/washing/holding/dressing/changing diapers;
-Loving/caring for their baby;
-Keeping track of appointments for their baby (doctor visit, WIC, etc..);
-Budgeting money;
-Not allowing their frustration to interfere with their baby;
-Being able to multi task various house duties while keeping the main focus on their baby's well-being
Young mothers must meet the following requirements:
-First time mother between the ages of 13-19
-Live in Brooklyn NY;
-Allow the mentor to enter your world;
-Must be available to spend time with your mentor 3 days a month for at least 4 hours, 2 days of which MUST be face-to face contact and 1 day via phone or e-mail;
